James L. Renner, 81, of Columbus passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Saint Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
Born July 15, 1936 in Ashland he was the son of Robert and Barbara Renner.
Jim Renner started his career in Corrections in 1990 at the Ohio State Reformatory. From there he went to Lorain Correctional Institution and North Central Correctional Institution working his way up to the rank of Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain and was the first Administrative Captain for the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown. From there he went to Richland Correctional and was a captain there for over ten years. He retired from the Ohio department of Rehabilitation and Corrections in 2010 as a well-respected Corrections Professional. Jim was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life; a good meal with good company, being a diehard Cleveland sports fan and overall a man with a big heart. He had a smile that could instantly brighten your day. Jim was a selfless person in many respects and would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He will be missed by his loved ones but will live on in the good memories in our hearts. Jim was a man who feared nothing and he is now at peace with his loved ones in heaven.
He is survived by children Debbie Kraus of Columbus, Stacey Renner of Ontario, Cindy Renner of Columbus, Jodie Renner of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeff Renner of Galion, Aaron Renner of Galion and Daniel Renner of Mansfield; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
