James “Poppy” Michael Walters, 66, of Galion, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Avita Health System – Galion Community Hospital after a sudden illness.

James was born in Ironton, Ohio on September 12, 1954, to the late Charles and Evelyn (McCleese) Walters. He married Barbara Williams on December 31, 2005, and she survives him.

James worked as a Telecommunications Installer. He graduated from Galion Senior High School, Class of 1972. James was a true family man and loved being with all his family but especially his grandchildren. He loved music not only singing but showing his talents when playing his guitar. James loved to go fishing and being on the water. He was a man of many words and loved talking to people especially about his faith and his love for the church. James loved to be in the kitchen cooking to see what new dishes he could create. He was an avid animal lover and spoiled his own pets. When time allowed, you would often find James watching his favorite sports on the television. James loved children and was a foster parent for many years.

In addition to his wife Barb, James is survived by his son, James (Danielle) Walters of Reynoldsburg, Tyler (Michelle) Walters of Marion; his daughters, Beth Ann (A.J.) Gray of Galion, Raigan White-Walters of Salt Lake City, Utah, Halle White of Galion; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Buddy (Sharon) Walters of Galion, twin brother Jack (Connie) Walters of Galion.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Walters and Evelyn Walters; brother, Frederick “Buck” Walters; son, Destin Walters; sisters, Barbara Jenkins, Judy Gail Castle, Donna “Sis” Jenkins, Sharon Harmon; grandson, Dylan McHenry.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 18, 2021, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and Monday, July 19, 2021, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with his brother, Elder Buddy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
