James M. “Jim” Ratcliff, 72, of Galion passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
Born May 30, 1951 in Narrows, Va., he was the son of Milan Ross and Mildred Lucille (Stables) Ratcliff. He first married Deborah A. (Heffernan) Ratcliff on September 30, 1972 and she preceded him on January 19, 1995. He then married Linda S. (Burket) Ratcliff on September 9, 2016 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1970 and worked for 41 years for Castle Metals in Galion and Cleveland.
Jim attended Grace Point Church in Galion, was a member of Galion Moose Lodge 303, loved sports and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Nathan (Amanda) Ratcliff of Galion, Richard Potter of Galion, James Matney of Bedford, Antonio (Lyndsey) Burket of Marion and Jermaine (Olivia Headlee) Burket of Illinois 13 grandchildren, Gavin, Kyler, Amara, Ellexia, Jason, Jenna, Aeneas, August, Penelope, Phoenix, Presley, Phaedra and Braylon; a great granddaughter, Kai; two sisters, Janet (Ed) Hout of Crestline and Karen (Bruce) Miller of Galion: numerous nieces and nephews an many friends that he considered family.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Nicole Matney, sister, Sharon Noe, brother, Chester Ratcliff and best friend, Harry Valentine
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Grace Point, 683 Portland Way North, Galion, Ohio 44833 where a service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Paul Walter officiating.
Family and friends are encouraged to wear Cleveland Indians (Guardians) apparel or that of your favorite MLB team.
