James L. “Jim” Heiser, age 92, passed away on Saturday September 16, 2023 at his residence with his children by his side.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hilda (Monat) Heiser, his first wife, June (Iams) Heiser, his siblings, Fritz (Ethel) Heiser, Kenneth (Dorothy) Heiser, Grace (Oren “Mac”) McMahon, Robert “Bud” Heiser, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernie (Wilma) Denton, Herman Denton, Carl (Alberta) Denton, Erma (Charles) Burt, Lowell (Eunice) Denton, Lois Denton, Faythe Heiser, son-in-law, David Burchett.

 Jim is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ellie Heiser, children, Debbie (Larry) Crawford, Jeff (Carla) Warner, Jennifer (Pam Purdom) Warner, Dale (Nicky) Heiser, grandchildren, Christopher (Jamie) Burchett, Logan Heiser, Kyle Heiser, Brent Heiser, David (Mireyah) Marcinek, Brianna Ryan, Brandon Ryan, Ben Ryan, Brady Ryan, great grandchildren, June Burchett, Jackson Marcinek, Benicio Marcinek, Karson Caudill, Kendall Caudill, brother, Paul Heiser, brother-in-law, Cecil Denton, sisters-in-law, Emma Heiser and Helen Denton, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Jim was the youngest of 6 children, graduated from Galion High School in 1948 and after graduation he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was a Sergeant in the Signal Corps assigned to the 25th Infantry Division from 1951 until 1953.  When returning to the United States he went on to work at North Electric, Galion Dresser, Peabody and finally for the City of Galion in the Water Department.  He retired with over 20 years of service with the City of Galion.  He was a lifelong and loyal member of the First United Church of Christ where he taught Sunday School, served on the Sunday School Board, Consistory as a Trustee, Deacon and Elder and served many meals for the bereaved families of the church, sang in the choir and a member of the American Legion.  He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

 He was a grandfather to so many more than just his own grandchildren, and a mentor to so many young people at the church.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his family and making homemade ice cream and playing cards, sharing vegetables from his garden with all the neighbors. He also enjoyed brightening people’s day by calling them on their birthday and anniversaries.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4-7 pm at Richardson-Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home, 218 S. Market St.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the First United Church of Christ 248 Harding Way West with the option to live stream the service at http://uccgalion.org or on the church’s facebook page.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ Memorial Endowment fund.
