James “Jimmie Q” Quaintance, age 91, of Galion passed away Tuesday July 16, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 29, 1932 in Bucyrus, he was the son of the late James and Genevieve (Buchwald) Quaintance. He married Jackie Sipes on September 11, 1954 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Bucyrus High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper. He was a co-owner of Ryder Heil Bronze in Bucyrus and was a lifetime member of Galion Elks 1191. He enjoyed golfing, softball, bowling and camping. He coached softball for many years. He was the go to person to arrange golf outings, softball and golf tournaments and therefore earned his nickname of The General.
In addition to his wife Jackie, he is survived by 3 children: Sheri (Mike) Burdette, Mike (Bridgette) Quaintance, and Penni (Steve) Rumple, grandchildren: Cori Thompson, Christi Higgins, Erin Conley, Ryan, Tiffany, Trey, and Trevor Quaintance, and Brandon and Nick Rumple, great grandchildren: Chandler, Cole and Kyle Bauer, Alex Miller, Addy and Carter Giesige, Bentley Woogerd, Sophia and Lucian Quaintance, Jax, Charlie and Jayden Rumple, Miles, Chase and Beau Conley, and Rilynn, and Arlo Quaintance, 4 great-great grandchildren, siblings: Robert Quaintance, Sharon Clady, Esther Miller, and Anna Cooper, many nieces and nephews as well as close friend Lynn “Snap” Hoffman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Henderson and siblings: Marilyn Knappenberger, Lavera Lohr, Ronald Quaintance, Sheldon Quaintance, Helen Quaintance and Edna Zeigler.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. TO 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A graveside service will be held at Iberia Cemetery Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Cox officiating.
