Harvey Franklin Ginder, 89, has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Harvey was born in Galion, Ohio to Edward Joseph Ginder and Vonna (Desenberg) Ginder and resided in the Galion area his whole life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Mary Norman of California, Wilma Palmer and Edward Ginder of Galion, Dee Price of Martel, Ohio and Ralph Sipes of Arizona.
Harvey is survived by the love of his life, Lareitta “Rite” (Jacobs) Ginder whom he happily wed February 28, 1953. Nearly seventy-one years of togetherness provided them with four daughters of whom he was very proud.
Karen Jean (Edward) Sterner of Galion, Debora Kay (Jackie) Mullins, of Galion, Cathy Mae (Richard) Schnelker of McKee, KY and Tammy Lynn Glenn (Dave Jones) of Galion. Grandchildren Christian (William) Wolfe, Missy McCleese, Shannon (Jim) Baker, Tory (Jenny) Mullins, Jen (Matt) Troiano, Josh (Kai) Glenn and Jordan Glenn.
17 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren and 7 Step great grandchildren blessed the Ginder home as well.
Harvey’s warm personality and keen humor was always present, when asked about all those kids in the family he would gladly claim responsibility for “starting all that”! Many evenings were spent on the front porch swing listening to his great stories of growing up and living in Galion or playing horseshoes in his backyard. He spent his free time gardening and growing flowers, starting all the plants in his basement in late winter. He taught his family the value of growing your own produce and would always compete with his daughters, after they had their own gardens, to grow the best of everything. Harvey also enjoyed restoring older pickup trucks and working with wood crafts which showcased his creative and artistic side. He loved spending time with his family and wore out several of those pickups attending the school programs, ball games, swim meets, and horse shows of all those grandkids. Harvey loved farm animals especially chickens and horses and spent a lot of the time in the barn.
Harvey worked 17 years for Globe Steel, working extra jobs as a school custodian and painting cars for a local dealership, showing his determination and dedication to providing for his wife and daughters. Harvey worked as the maintenance supervisor for United Church Directories for 30 years, retiring in 1997.
Harvey Ginder will be greatly missed by all, we are thankful for a life well lived, filled with faith, love, happiness and dedication to family.
