Harold Eugene Baldwin, 71, of Galion and formerly of Mt. Gilead passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2021, at Avita Galion Hospital with his children by his side.
Harold was born in Galion on December 31, 1949, to the late Kenneth and Margaret (England) Baldwin.
He was a graduate of the class of 1967 at Mt. Gilead High School. Harold started his working career at age 16 serving the Mt. Gilead State Park. At 18 years of age, he began his career as a mechanical engineer at the HPM Corp. in Mt. Gilead. At age 20 in 1970, he was drafted into the United States Army serving a tour of duty in the Vietnam Conflict from 1970 thru 1972 obtaining the rank of SP5 in Military Intelligence. After serving in the military, Harold returned to Morrow County and continued his career at HPM Corp. where he was a Di-cast engineer until its closing.
Harold was an active member with the VFW Post 8054 in Mt. Gilead, holding many elected positions, including Post Commander for three years. He was a member of the Galion VFW Post 4329, Morrow County AMVETS Post 87, Galion AMVETS Post 1979, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 of Galion, and the Loyal Order of Moose in Galion. One of his most prestigious honors was serving with the Color Guard of the VFW Post 8054.
Harold spent many hours supporting and assisting the veterans of Morrow and Crawford Counties. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, also making his rounds to the local Posts seeing friends. Harold was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Minnesota Vikings, and the Cleveland Browns. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially the Eagles “Hotel California.”
Harold is survived by his son, Bill (Leslie) Baldwin and their children, Lacie and Joey; daughter April (Travis) Wright and their children, Andrew and Aliza; sister Bonnie (Herb) Graham; special friend, Vickie Davis; ex-wives, Joanne Brake and Carolyn (Neal) Baldwin; half-brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Baldwin and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Baldwin; mother, Margaret, and a sister Virgie Howard.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 17 with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mt. Gilead.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army, the VFW Post 8054, and AMVETS Post 87.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
