George Wesley Imer III, 60 of Marengo, passed away on July 18, 2024, at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital. George was born on October 14, 1963, in Wheeling, WV to the late George and Shelba (Canter) Imer Jr.
George was raised and baptized in the All Saints Catholic Church in Blaine, Ohio. He attended Bridgeport High School and graduated in 1983. Throughout his high school years, George participated in football and wrestling. He was even a state qualifier for wrestling, which he was very proud of. After graduating high school, George completed EMT and firefighting courses and served his community for the next 15 years as a firefighter. Growing up, George volunteered as a firefighter and later helped raise funds for Wolfhurst Fire Department during cookouts and other various activities.
Following his firefighting career, George became a Master Mechanic. He was most recently employed by AAA Auto Care Center in Columbus, where he would spend 20 years. George always had a love for cars. He could often be found tinkering with his latest project in his garage. George also enjoyed hunting and soaking in the great outdoors on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. His most cherished moments were spent with his granddaughter, Brynli. They enjoyed quality time together spent at county fairs. George spoiled her every opportunity he had.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his daughter, Payton (Travis) Carpenter of Galion, granddaughter, Brynli, his sisters; Karen Helm, Jacqueline Piccin, Judith Imer, Barbara Canter and Kathleen Imer-Neal, his Godmother, Mary Ann Canter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, friends and aunts and uncles.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Imer, and Godfather, Lew Canter.
Friends may call on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 12:00 until 2:00pm at Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. The service will immediately follow at 2:00pm with Father Paul Fahrbach officiating.
