On October 15, 2024, Gene McDougle departed this world at the impressive age of 92. Born with strong determination and a sense of humor, Gene had mastered the art of tinkering, mowing, and occasionally fixing what wasn’t broken.
Gene was born in Bucyrus during the great depression to Gertrude and Jim McDougal. After graduating from Bucyrus High School, he then served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an air mechanic. Post-service, he shifted gears to decades of employment at General Motors, where he gladly retired.
Gene was predeceased by his wife, Martha “Betty” McDougle. After 60-some years together, we imagine, they navigate the hereafter as they did life – with love, bickering, and laughter.
A loving father to Kevin (Tamma) and Donavan (Keith), and a caring stepfather to Bob Breymaier, Gene was often a man of few words – but once he opened up he was a trove of ideas and information, either real or made-up.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that everyone take a moment to tinker with something, mow a lawn, or simply share a laugh in Gene’s memory. This would honor him more than any bouquet.
As we bid farewell to Gene McDougle, let’s remember that life, much like his burning desire to mow the lawn, is all about the upkeep and enjoying the time you spend on it.
Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes in Galion is honored to serve the family of Gene McDougle, and condolences may be made to them at www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
