Esther “Jean” Quinn, 88, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Arbors at Mifflin after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Galion, OH to Ralph and Esther (Feight) Evans graduated from Galion Sr. High School (’54) and from The Ohio State University as an Occupational Therapist. Later, she earned her Masters Degree at Kent State.
Adventuring to Brooklyn, NY she secured her first job at the VA Hospital where she met the love of her life, John Quinn (d 2007). After starting a family in Brooklyn, NY, life took her family back to Galion, OH and eventually to Mansfield, OH. Working most of her career with the Rehab Center and Mansfield City Schools, she helped in making the pediatric occupational therapy program at Med Central a possibility. Her love of her occupation often found her designing equipment at home for many of her young clients.
A member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, she served on the Liturgy Committee and helped create the quilted banners still used in the church. A talented seamstress, she also enjoyed quilting, knitting and volunteered making alterations for costumes for the company at Mansfield Playhouse. She dearly loved theater and music among her favorites were The Sound of Music, The King and I, and The South Pacific. A fixer, if there was a project that needed done, Jean was quick to research and tackle any project including anything from bookcases to a patio for her home. She loved sailing, swimming and all things related to the beach, and will be remembered fondly for her innovative, inventive mind, and her kind, sometimes stubborn spirit.
Jean is survived by her daughter Mary (Mark) Quinn- Herring of Mansfield, granddaughter Kore (James) McKelvey of Mansfield, sister Daphane Daly of Delaware, niece Terri (Jeff) Ross of Delaware, nephew Sean (Sandie) McDermott of Albany, NY, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her son Kevin “Kev” Quinn.
Friends may call Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 11 am to 2 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where her memorial service will be held at 2 pm. The Rev. Fr. Kishore Kottana will officiate and burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galion.
