Effie Ray, 87, of Galion passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion where she had been a resident for the past 10 months.
She was born March 23, 1933 in Grundy, Virginia and was the daughter of William and Minty (Childress) Vance. Effie married Curtis Ray on November 11, 1949 and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage until his passing on April 15, 2012.
Effie worked outside of her home at various jobs and places. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, camping, bee keeping, traveling, attending church and singing in the church choir. Effie devoted her life to being a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda (Ross) Haitt, Angie (Chuck) Caldwell, Patty (Jerry) Marshall and Sue (Ric) Miller, all of Galion; two sons, Buzz (Mary) Ray and Tom (Trudy) Ray all of Galion; eight grandchildren, Shawn ( Tina DelGiudice) Hall, Sherri Sheriff, Niki Holt, Josh Ray, Curtis (Erica) Ray, Chad Ray; Brooke (Jason) Harsh and Jessica (Kris) Kildow and 12 great-grandchildren, Andy, Angela, Allison, Laynee, Riley, Brynlee, Kaleb, Adlynne, Lydea, Miley, Holden and Grady.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Vance, Gally Vance, Jennings “Hurley” Vance, Edgar Vance and Roy Vance and seven sisters, Eva Vance, Ethel Meadows, Ella Taylor, Edna Adkins, Elsie Hinman, Edith Diamond and Essie Ray.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2020 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday with Rev. Paul Walter officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
