Earnest “Ernie” Ditmars, 81 of Bucyrus passed away on Thursday May 16, 2019 at Bucyrus Community Hospital of an apparent heart attack, his death was unexpected. Ernie was born March 30, 1938 in Morrow County to the late Homer and Velvia (Lester) Ditmars. He was married August 30, 1958 to Margaret (Gullett) who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Irene Markwell and brother Ronald Ditmars.
Ernie is also survived by sons Jon and Donald both of Bucyrus, Gregory of Shelby, Jeffrey of Georgia, and Steve of Hayesville; 15 grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Tim of Galion, Tom of Corpus Christi, TX, and Jim of Marion; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernie lived most of his life in this area and graduated from Crestline High School in 1957 where he played football. He retired in 1990 from General Motors after 30 years. Ernie attended the Messiah House of Prayer in Shiloh as well as Faith Builders Church, he and Margaret sang in many area churches. Ernie served in the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed bowling, OSU Sports, and the Cleveland Browns.
Friends may call at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm where services will be held at 4:00 pm with Rev. Bill Howell and Rev. Freddie Rowe officiating.
