Dr. Jill Ann Dixon, age 83, of Galion passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022.
She was born July 19, 1939 in Galion and was the daughter of Wilbert George “Mike” and Beth (Ulrich) Ferguson. Jill married Howard E. Dixon on June 24, 1966 and they enjoyed 40 years together until his passing on November 20, 2006.
An inspiration to many. Jill Dixon raised three daughters. She worked her way through college to become a Registered Nurse and earned a Master of Science in Nursing at Ohio State University. She was an instructor at Mansfield General School of Nursing. Mrs. Dixon went on to achieve a Doctorate of Education at Nova University. Doctor Jill, as we called her, combined her passion for education, nursing and support of the local community to serve as the founding Dean of MedCentral College of Nursing in Mansfield. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteered at various organizations including CCSG, the community food pantry and the Galion Golden Age Center.
Dr. Jill and her late husband, Howard Dixon, were philanthropic members of the community. She was a member of the former Naomi Chapter 47 Order of Easter Star in Galion where she was a past Worthy Matron. They supported the Shriners Hospital for Children, their church and their community. Most important was her inspiration to work hard, live a respectful and conservative life, and to reach for the stars with education and career.
Dr. Jill is survived by her three daughters Rebecca (Luther) Burnham of New Braunfels, TX, Jennifer (Keith) Gledhill of Reno, NV and Lana (Dean) Pfeifer of Galion; three grandchildren, Allen Pfeifer, Adriel (Neal) Nutter, Scott (Meg Miers) Koysh; three great grandchildren, Benjamin Pfeifer, Ella Nutter, Jack Nutter; sister-in-law, J.D. Ferguson of Plano, TX, and life-long friend William Ritzhaupt.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Ferguson.
Dr. Jill Dixon will be missed by many. Her courage as a young woman, commitment to education and love of family will continue to be an inspiration to all that knew her. Godspeed Mrs. Jill Dixon.
