Douglas B. Schreck, 72, passed away at home on January 18, 2024, with his dog Bailey by his side.
Born on December 27, 1951, in Galion, OH the son of Richard Schreck and Mary (McCune) Schreck.
Married Carole C. Sheffer on June 3, 1972, and they enjoyed over 51 years together.
He was a graduate of Galion High School, class of 1970 and Ohio barber college in 1971. He owned and operated Schreck’s Barber Shop at 213 S. Market Street in Galion, OH until retirement on April, 30 2021 after 50 years of serving the Galion community. On the day of his retirement, Doug stated “Galion is a good community. It’s supported me and my family really well.”
Doug enjoyed following Ohio sports teams (he attended a 1995 World Series game to see the Cleveland Indians play the Atlanta Braves), trips to Lake Erie, fishing, hiking, bicycling and reading and relaxing on his porch watching and listening to nature that surrounded the picturesque farmhouse setting and pond. He coached the Crestline little league Indians to a championship in 1991 and was a long-time member of Valley View Golf Course and the Tri-City Golf League. He also loved to travel the country and spend quality time with his two granddaughters, and share a good laugh or story with friends, both old and new.
Survived by his wife Carole, son Erik (Nicole), granddaughters Chloe and Madison Schreck, brother Phil (Sue) Schreck, brother-in-law Bill (Darlene) Sheffer.
Preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Kellie Rene Schreck.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Friday January 26, 2024, at Galion First United Church of Christ 248 Harding Way West, Galion, OH where a service will be held at 12:00pm with Reverend Steven Court.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Galion First United Church of Christ memorial fund or a local humane society in care of the funeral home.
