Doug Court, 78, of Galion, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

Born July 26, 1944 in Galion, he was the son of Clarence B. “Bill” and Marjorie D. (Hopkins) Court.  He married his high school sweet heart, Mary L. Deppen on January 29, 1966 and she preceded him on March 12, 2016.

He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1962 then attended Bluffton University and graduated with a Masters of Education from Temple University. He retired after thirty years of teaching math and computers from Galion City Schools. Doug was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Galion where he was very active and member of the Galion Kiwanis. He served as an Ambassador for the Galion/Crestline area Chamber of Commerce, volunteered and was very active for many years with the Crawford County Board of Elections, enjoyed going to theatres, traveling and watching baseball.

He is survived by his three sons, Jeffrey Court of Galion, Ben and Brandi (Rios) Court of Cuyahoga Falls and Jon and Christine (Tyger) Court of Wooster; grandchildren, Julie Court, Mary Court, Danielle Court, Samuel (Faith) Court, Madison (Caleb) Steele and Anna Court; great granddaughter, Olivia Court and his siblings, Diana Rupert of Mansfield, Janet Moyer of North Richland Hills, Texas, Gary (Elva) Court of Perrysburg, Fred Court of Birmingham, Alabama, Tom (Rita) Court of Floyds Knobs, Indiana and Steve (Elsa) Court of Mansfield.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Shannon (Lobsenz) Court

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2023 at the First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, Galion, Ohio  44833, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at First United Church of Christ with  Rev. Steve Court officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ College Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
