Donald L. Lowmiller, “Donnie”, 91, of rural Bucyrus passed away Friday, February 5, 2021, at Avita Galion Hospital after a short illness. He was a hard-working farmer and devoted Christian who was always there to help others.
He was born October 2, 1929, in Bucyrus and was the son of Rollin and Gertrude (Frey) Lowmiller. On January 21, 1951, he married Donna M. (Sherer) Lowmiller and she preceded him in death after nearly 52 years of marriage on January 10, 2003. Donnie is survived by his wife of 17 years, Marilyn (Baird) Lowmiller whom he married on October 5, 2003.
Donnie graduated from Whetstone School in 1947 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a farmer his entire life and drove a school bus for the Colonel Crawford Local Schools for 33 years, and participated in many National school bus rodeos. Donnie was a volunteer for the Whetstone Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
He was a very active member of Windfall Emanuel United Church of Christ, playing dartball and holding many positions as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday school teacher. Donnie was proud of his pond and he absolutely loved socializing and playing games with family and friends. Many memories were made at Donnie’s pond. He loved to travel, visiting every state in the United States and spending the winters in Texas. Donnie enjoyed restoring old tractors and trucks with his son, David.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Daniel (Donna) Lowmiller of Texas; Dixie (Allan) Long of Tiro, David (Tamera) Lowmiller of Bucyrus and Diane (Dan) Cochran of Amanda, Ohio; two step-daughters, Linda (Danny) Jones of North Robinson and Mary (Jeff) Cochran of Bucyrus; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one expected; two step-great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild and a brother-in-law Charles Cunning of Colorado.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Cunning, and a brother, Kenneth Lowmiller.
Due to COVID, all services will be private. Reverend Loyd and Dreama Caudill will help the family celebrate his life and burial will be in Whetstone Cemetery, Bucyrus.
Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Windfall United Church of Christ, American Heart Association, or the Gideons International in care of the funeral home.
