Denise L. “Dennie” Laughery, 65, of Galion, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Signature Health Care in Galion after a two-year battle with cancer.

Dennie was born October 29, 1952 in Medina to Robert May of Ashland and the late Anita (Bowman) May. On June 22, 1974 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Michael L. “Mike” Laughery.

A graduate of Ashland High School in 1970 and later Ashland College in 1974 she began work as Secretary to the Treasurer at the former Galion Manufacturing, working until she became a full-time mom four years later. Dennie and Mike were inseparable, having the words “until death do us part” removed from their wedding vows, knowing they would be together forever.

Her business endeavors began with her company, The Grocery Bag, providing shopping service for shut-ins which lead to her prescription delivery for Quay Drug’s in Galion. Dennie’s passion was collecting McDonald’s Happy Meal toys from garage sales and flea markets and reselling them on e-Bay. As a devoted mother she supported her children, behind the scenes, in all of their activities growing up. Denise and Mike belonged to First Lutheran Church in Galion, Hilltop Community Church in Mansfield and most recently, Trinity Lutheran Church in Crestline.

In addition to her husband, Mike and father, Robert May of Ashland, she is survived by her children, Brian (Rebecca) Laughery of Galion and Shawna (Timmy) Whited of Crestline; grandchildren, Bella and Saben; sister, Karen Walsh of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, nephew, Kirk Walsh of Wilmington, North Carolina, niece Kristin Walsh of New York City and sister-in-law, Pat Laughery of Ashland.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita (Bowman) May.
