David Todd Wert, 60, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at his home after declining health. He had suffered from dementia and a short battle with lymphoma.
Todd was born in Ravenna on June 14, 1958 to the late David A. Wert and Barbara (Craig) Wert. He married Marilyn (LaRue) Wert on December 28, 1976 and she survives him.
Todd graduated from Northmor High School in 1976 and retired from General Motors in Ontario at their closing. Prior to General Motors he worked at Lilly Industries as a Welder. Todd grew up on his parent’s grain and dairy farm milking cows manually and graduated to an efficient milk parlor. His passion was working on his farm where he was a beef and grain farmer. He was a member of Hilltop Community Church in Mansfield, the Morrow County Antique Tractor and Equipment Association and a Morrow/Troy Township Trustee. He was a past member of the Lexington Music Boosters. A hard worker, Todd was always willing to help others, sometimes at his own expense. He was multi-talented and a jack-of-all-trades, but also knew how to enjoy his life. A good provider and father, Todd taught his children perseverance and a good work ethic. He became a compassionate and wonderful grandpa that his grandchildren love very much.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, MaryAmber (Jeremy) Hughes, Heidi (Dave) Scherpelz, Levi (Lindsey) Wert, and Valerie (Mark) Fraizer; grandchildren, Hannah, Jared, Trenton, Tabitha, Beatrice, Charles and Serena Hughes, Oliver and Wyatt Fraizer, and Riley Wert; his siblings, Tim (Jane) Wert, Joni Nigh, Kathy (Delmar) Eichorn, Bob (Janeen) Wert, and Ted Wert (Penni); his mother-in-law, Luella LaRue; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, David A. Wert, and his father-in-law, Riley O. LaRue.
Friends may call Friday, June 29, 2018 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM and Saturday, June 30 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 30 at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Andy Jesson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park, Lexington.
