Dale L. Knowlton, 86, of Galion, often had a story to tell, was always busy doing something, and was devoted to his family. His busy hands are now at rest and as he passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 27, 2021, at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born May 23, 1935, in Pickerington, Ohio, and was the son of Russell and Mary (Payne) Knowlton. Dale married Shirley Jean Rinehart on November 6, 1955, and she preceded him in death after 51 years of marriage on May 21, 2007. Dale is survived by his wife of nine years, Julie (Krauss) Waterer Knowlton whom he married on May 5, 2012.
He graduated from Galion High School in 1953 and held many jobs including farm helper, a laborer in construction, and fabricator with the former Baja Boats in Bucyrus. Dale also worked in the electrical field with the former North Electric, PECO II in Galion, and Federal Pacific in North Carolina. Dale was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion and a 4th Degree member of the St. Francis Council Knights of Columbus 1234 of Galion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark (Jan) Knowlton, Todd Knowlton, Scott Knowlton, Scott Waterer, Rob (Bonnie) Waterer, Jan (Theresa) Waterer, Jody (Lisa) Waterer, and Malissa (Gary) Klein and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Knowlton.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty St. Galion, Ohio with Father Paul Fahrbach as celebrant. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery at a later date.
