Charles L. Newhon, 94, of Crestline, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, Mansfield.
Charlie was born in Mt. Gilead on October 13, 1923 to the late Harry L. and Martha E. (Hart) Newhon. He married Mary Ann (Christini) Newhon on September 10, 1949 and she survives him.
Charlie served his country in the Army during World War II. He was then employed as a draftsman by Ideal Electric, and retired after forty-two years of service. Afterwards he was rehired as a consultant for more two years. Charlie enjoyed his job and woodworking. A “cookie monster”, Charlie loved his desserts. Charlie was a good man, inside and out, and referred to by Mary as “the perfect husband”.
In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by: his son, Robert C. Newhon, Crestline, his daughter, Jean M. Henderson, Mansfield, three grandchildren, Michael Henderson, Justin, Henderson, Andrew Henderson, three great-grandchildren, Brandon Henderson, Rayden Henderson, Bentley Henderson, his sister, Linda (Don) Arter, Crestline, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Shipman and Alta Newhon.
Friends may call Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Crestline, with Rev. Christopher Bohnsack officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline. Military honors will be given by the U.S. Army and the Crestline/Galion Veteran’s Military Funeral Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
