Betty DeTray, 98, of Galion passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at home.

She was born July 30, 1923, in Springfield, Ohio, and was the daughter of George and Lillie (Zeigler) Heeg, Sr. Betty married Homer R. DeTray on April 14, 1941, and he preceded her in death after nearly 56 years of marriage on February 21, 1997.

She worked at the former AAA office in Galion and Shelby Depot. Betty was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church in Galion where she was active with the Women’s Circle.  Always smiling; she enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and solitaire, bingo, puzzles, word searches, and was an avid reader. Betty loved roses and spending the winters in Texas.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Howard DeTray of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Carolyn Jean Metcalf of Galion; four grandchildren, Heather Carson, Tarsa Steagall, Jeff DeTray, and Ted DeTray; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, LeRoy Heeg and George Bernard Heeg, Jr., and two sisters, Marjorie Haught and Jennie McNelly.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 10 with Rev. Richard Genzman officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or the Galion Public Library in care of the funeral home.
