Betty J. Chandler, 81, of Katy, Texas and former Galion resident passed away, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Garden at Rose’s Retreat in Katy, Texas where she had been a resident for the past year.

She was born in Galion on October 17, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Charles Turner and Hattie Belle (Epley) Newland. Betty married Richard Edwin “Ed” Chandler on June 25, 1955 and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage until his passing on September 4, 2001.

She graduated from Shelby High School in 1954 and worked as a manager at the former Readmore Book Stores in Mansfield for over 20 years. Betty was formerly a member of First Lutheran Church in Galion and was currently a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy, Texas. Known as “Gramma” by her grandchildren she cherished, Betty enjoyed reading, baking and was well-known for her homemade breads and coffee ring.

She is survived by son Richard (Isabel) Chandler of Richmond, Texas; daughter Valerie (Abe) Martinez of Katy, Texas; grandchildren Audrey (David) Persch of Houston, Texas, Erin (Jason) Linton of Sugar Land, Texas, Adam Chandler of Richmond, Texas and Natalie Chandler of The Woodlands, Texas; four great-grandchildren Lucas, Andrew and Madeleine Linton and Gillian Persch; sister Patricia (Roger) Sites of Shelby and brother Franklin (Charlotte) Newland of Indiana.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 6 with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
