Known as “PaPa” by his beloved grandchildren, Ben Estep was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Ben C. Estep, 68, of Galion passed away after an extended illness, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Galion Hospital.
He was born April 29, 1949 in Galion and was the son of the late Harold and Dixie (Duncan) Irwin.
Ben was a 1968 graduate of Northmor High School and worked as a machinist at the former Komatsu Dresser for many years. He retired from the Parks Department with the City of Marion. Ben was a member of the VFW Post 4329 of Galion and American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 of Galion. He reconnected several years ago with his former Vietnam Army Unit, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry, Charlie Company, 199th Light Infantry Brigade, Old Guard Vietnam. Ben enjoyed fishing and classic cars.
Ben is survived by daughter Kari (Sam Sorrenti) Gledhill of Galion; son Adam (Regina) Estep of Mansfield; five grandchildren Lindsey and Jason Gledhill, Wyatt, Samuel and Logan Estep; mother of his children Judy Estep of Galion; two sisters Ann (Red) Williams of Bucyrus and Eva (Jeff) Harden of Salisbury, North Carolina and brother Martin Estep of Galion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Lauren Ashley Gledhill; two brothers Jimmy and Floyd Estep and two sisters Joan Marie Estep and Allie Kay Estep.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13 with Rev. Paul Walter officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United Sates Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in care of the funeral home.
