Barbara Fay Gerber, age 82, of Upper Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at 7:55 am at her home.
Barbara Fay was born on October 7, 1938, in Hinkley, Ohio, to Frances Ahlene and Samuel North Maxwell, who affectionately nicknamed her “Bunny”. She married the late Dennis Gerber on August 24, 1958. Dennis preceded her in death on December 19, 2018.
She is survived by two children: Rebecca “Becca” (Gary Vigil) Roller of Walsenburg, Colorado, and Maxwell (Catherine) Gerber of Upper Sandusky; seven grandchildren: Isaac (Chavon) Romanko, Abram (Samantha) Johnston, Naomi (James) Berger, Alissa Gerber (Shadow Pollock), Abigail Gerber, Anna Gerber, and Brett Romanko; ten great-grandchildren: Elyssa, Mia, and Blaze Romanko; Addalee, Ellie and Winston Johnston; Jaden and Seraphina Berger; and Adelina Faye Bogner and Monnette Pollock.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter Jacqueline “Jacky” Johnston, and father in law and mother in law, Regina and Karl Gerber.
Barb was a 1956 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. Growing up, Barb was very fond of horses and liked to do tricks on horses, and was artistic.
Barb was one of the founders and also volunteered at the Christian Food Pantry for many years and took great care in serving those in need. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross as she and Denny delivered life-giving blood to area hospitals as needed. Barb spent many years babysitting her grandchildren and provided them tender loving care throughout their younger years.
Barb had a deep faith and a love of the Lord which was evident to all who knew her. Barb and Denny were active in numerous small group Bible studies and were positive influences to those progressing in their faith. She and Denny attended St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years and were founding members of Community Christian Center in Upper Sandusky. Barb most recently attended Trinity Evangelical Church in Upper Sandusky where she was active in Sunday School.
Funeral services for Barb Gerber will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Friday, August 20, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. before the funeral service at the church on Saturday.
