Allen “Al” Kingseed, 83, of Galion passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born July 11, 1935 in Seneca County, Ohio and was the son of Carl Edward and Claudia Madge (Allen) Kingseed. Al is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Unckrich) Kingseed whom he married on September 9, 1961.
He is a 1953 graduate of McCutchenville High School and later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from The Ohio State University in 1961. Al proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crestline and had worked as Vice-President and Treasurer of the former American Steel Grave Vault Co. in Galion from 1966-2004.
Al loved his Galion community and served on many boards including being past president and member of the Galion Area Betterment Commission, Galion Community Improvement Corporation, Galion Area Chamber of Commerce, Galion Community Hospital Board and North Central Ohio Health Care System. He was a 20 year member of Toastmasters International, achieving the Able Toastmaster Designation and serving as District 10 Governor for Northeast Ohio, life member of the Galion Elks Lodge BPOE 1191 and past board member of the Galion Boosters Club and Galion Community Center YMCA.
In 1978, Al started cooking “Al’s Roast Beef” at the Pickle Run Festival for many years. More recently, he enjoyed being the “grill master” on Friday’s at Phil’s Deli in Galion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Lisa L. (Brad) Reed of Dublin; sons Brent A. (Stacie) Kingseed of Galion and Mark W. (Diane) Kingseed of Saint Claire, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren Natalie Reed of Dublin, Joshua Reed of Bremerton, Washington, Madison and Matthew Kingseed both of Galion, Zackary and Evan Kingseed both of Saint Clair, Pennsylvania; brother Kevin J. (Mary) Kingseed of Tiffin and sister-in-law Betsy U. (Roger) Beaudet of Galion.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother David V. Kingseed; brother-in-law Capt. William F. Unckrich and father-in-law and mother-in-law Ferd and Betty Unckrich.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Diana Seaman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
