Alice Jean Goddard, 92, of Galion passed into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born July 19, 1929, in Warren, Ohio, and was the daughter of Eugene L. and Alice (Rinebolt) Ford. On May 2, 1948, she married William H. Goddard and their marriage was a match made in heaven. William preceded her in death after 46 years on May 2, 1994.
Alice graduated from Warren G. Harding high school in 1947 and attended Kent State University. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Galion and volunteered with their outreach to the community program.
Alice was a homemaker and volunteered for many organizations including the Galion Chapter of American Red Cross, where she served on the Board of Directors and also volunteered with the bloodmobiles. She was also a longtime TWIG member where she donated many hours at the Galion Community Hospital until recently where her failing eyesight prevented her from doing so. The public service work she loved the most was in her longtime association with the Galion Public Library where she served on the board.
Alice started a library for the Aspen Terrace community, where she had resided for the past several decades. She also enjoyed the jitterbug with her husband and was an avid bridge player throughout her life.
She is survived by a son, Thomas (Danna) Goddard of Boynton Beach, Florida; daughter, Linda Goddard of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Ashley Goddard and Allie Goddard and their mother, Lisa Goddard all of Florida; a sister-in-law, Jane (Paul) Thorn of Zanesville, Ohio and special nieces, Debbie Sherlock and Pam Nelson.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Rale McMillen.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, at the Christ United Methodist Church, 130 East Walnut St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday with Rev. Heather McLeod officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the clubhouse at Aspen Terrace.
