It will be a return of the living dead as hoards of zombies will take over downtown Bucyrus for the second annual Zombie Walk.
The walk begins at 6 p.m. on October 11 with pre-registration at MB Subculture at 127 South Sandusky Avenue until the day of the event. The cost to join the undead walkers is a donation of a non-perishable food item which will be given to the Bucyrus Salvation Army.
“It is supposed to be for family and for fun,” MB Subculture co-owner Betsy Gerhart said. “You know they are just watching them walk down the street as zombies, and then the party afterward will be something great for everybody involved,”
“We had done a zombie walk in another town, and when we opened the store at the other place, a lot of people came in town and complained there was nothing to do. So we thought maybe a zombie walk would get a lot of people involved, and probably everyone who were coming into the store were participating last year. So we are hoping to get more people and maybe the town involved.”
Gerhart said that last year’s event had about 85 walkers, but this year she hopes to have more.
“I would love to see 100 people out there. It would be great to have floats in the walk, as well as groups of friends and family walking together,” Gerhart said.
To walk in the parade entrants must be in costume and weapons are not allowed. Registered zombies will be given a number for the costume contest that will follow the walk. The walk will finish at Zorne’s Auction Factory at 212 North Walnut Street where a zombie prom and party will be held. Costumes will be judged and awards given at that time.
The zombie prom is open to those both in zombie costume and those among the living. The party will feature games, including a brain-eating contest, music and dancing, as well as food.
During the walk a Zombie Wound Treatment Center will be set up at Home Care Matters at 133 South Sandusky.
Zombie walk T-Shirts are available for pre-sale at MB Subculture for $15.
From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the day of the Zombie Walk MB Subculture will be hosting an open house to celebrate the opening of their new location.
To commemorate the occasion the store will be hosting music, movies, and more including an appearance by the Ghostbusters of New Philadelphia.
The store will also be doing pre-registration for the zombie walk, as well as helping those who need help with their zombie makeup prior to the walk.
