The Wynford Board of Education received very good news on the financial front during the treasurer’s report Monday night.

During her report Wynford Treasurer Leesa Smith explained that with the carryover from this fiscal year, state funding, the Community Connectors Grant, and the 21st Century Grant that the district will see increases in funding over the next two years. The school is set to receive increases of $694,000 in FY2016 and at least $700,000 in FY2017.

The 21st Century Grant that was awarded to the school was for a total of $200,000 for the elementary school intervention programs. Wynford will also split $155,000 with four other Crawford County Schools for the Community Connector’s Grant.

Superintendent Steve Mohr explained how the school will utilize the extra funds coming into the school.

“The intervention that we are going to have on our students in grade K through 6 is going to have a great impact on the district,” Mohr said. “We are going to be able to do things financially that we have put on the back burner and move forward in terms of transportation, technology, instructional supplies, and things we need to provide the best education for our students.”

The Wynford Board of Education voted in favor of all personnel items on the agenda during Monday night’s meeting. Among approved personnel items was the retire/rehire of elementary teacher Lynne Fisher.

All operational items on the agenda were unanimously approved by the Board of Education as well Monday night. Along with the aforementioned 21st Century Grant the board approved hiring Becky Kirgis through the Crawford County Public Health as the school nurse. Also approved was the resignation of Leah Hartschuh as an aide through NCOESC. Hartschuh is resigning from the position to take over as supervisor for Project More at the Tiffin City School District.
