Wynford Elementary has a new administrator following the Wynford Board of Education meeting the evening of Thursday, Aug. 10.

Andrew Johnson was hired as the assistant elementary principal for grades fourth through sixth and will be kindergarten through sixth grade when his additional licensure is approved in coming weeks, Wynford Superintendent Fred Fox said.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with his experience as a teacher, coach and administrator join us this close to the start of the school year,” Fox said. “He has a track record of success and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him.”

Johnson will come on as a part-time administrator replacing Andrew Schiefer, who took a position with Mansfield schools.

Johnson is a native of Huron and spent 35 years in education before retiring. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and received his master’s degree from Ohio State University.

Most recently, Johnson was the middle school principal for Galion City Schools where he retired in October 2014.

Though spending most of his time at the middle and high school level, Johnson said he feels the transition to the elementary level won’t be difficult.

“Kids are kids,” he said. “Obviously they are at a different developmental stage at the elementary level, but I look forward to the challenge. I’m sure things will go very smoothly.”

Johnson’s contract is for 150 school days, which he expects to mean being in the building four days per week.
