Wynford Superintendent Steve Mohr told the district’s Board of Education on Monday that a former program is making a comeback.

Mohr is making himself available to talk with the public about the Wynford School District. Dubbed “Saturdays with Steve,” Mohr has been making himself available to speak with anyone from 9 to 11 in the morning the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in the Wynford High School library.

Wynford Superintendent Steve Mohr 1Mohr explained he has been holding the sessions since February and that he will be doing this for the foreseeable future at Wynford.

“I am going to be doing it as long as I am superintendent at Wynford,” Mohr said. “This is an opportunity for people to come in and share their concerns, and open up the communication between the school and the community.”

“I had done it earlier in my career, and I kind of got away from it. And so I just wanted to continue it,” Mohr continued. “It is every second and fourth Saturday of the month so just come in and chat.”

In Treasurer Leesa Smith’s report to the board, she noted that there weren’t a lot of changes in the month of January between 2014 and 2015. Smith noted that there was a decrease in the property tax distribution due to an advance, and that supplies for the month increased due to the purchase of Google Chrome Books for the PARCC testing.

Smith also noted that the Wynford PTO helped fund the purchase of the Google Chrome Books with a donation of $6,200 which the board approved later during the vote on operational items on the agenda.

Also announced during her report was a $3,770 donation from the Area Office on Aging to go towards the Project MORE Grant. The monies will be used to purchase more books for the elementary book room.

Smith also presented to the board a certificate from the State Auditor’s Office for having a clean audit.

The Wynford Board of Education approved all personnel items on the agenda Monday night including the resignations of Billy Banta (head cross country coach), Laura Stucky (elementary teacher), Deanna Stuckman (junior high cheer leading advisor), Hillary Horsley (student aide), and Julie Miller (assistant varsity cheer leading advisor).

Miller was approved to be the sixth grade Mohican advisor. Chelsea Keegan was approved as the varsity volleyball coach for the 2015-2016 school year.

The school board unanimously approved all operational items on the agenda as well Monday night. Including the two aforementioned grants, other items that were approved included a $15,000 purchase order to All-American Fundraising for an elementary fundraiser, a $6,520.31 purchase order to replace a heating valve in the elementary, and an agreement with the Mohican School in the Out-of-Doors for the annual sixth grade trip.

The Wynford Board of Education held a public discussion on the 2015-2016 school year calendar. The board will make a final vote on the calendar during its April meeting.
