Common Core was discussed by Superintendent Steve Mohr and the Wynford Board of Education during the board’s meeting Monday night.
During Mohr’s discussion the superintendent addressed the board giving a brief history of how Common Core started, as well as alleviating some of the misnomers about the system which will be enacted in each Ohio school district.
Mohr explained the purpose of the presentation.
“This administration, while we think that Common Core is a good thing, but the values of Wynford, which are the traditional values of Wynford, are never going to be compromised,” Mohr said.
“It will still have local control. What we teach in the classroom is still going to be controlled by the Board of Education, and by our teachers who I think will reflect the values of what our community is,” Mohr continued.
The Wynford Board of Education approved all personnel Items including hiring June Welsh as a full-time bus driver for the Pioneer route. The board also established the rate of $50 for main ticket takers at athletic events, and $39 for assistant ticket takers.
All operational Items were approved during Wynford’s school board meeting including the donation of 25 $50 gift certificates from Ohio Mutual Insurance Group for the district’s “Shoes for School” program which goes towards students in need of a new pair of shoes. Mohr thanked Ohio Mutual for the donation.
The next Wynford Board of Education meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the Wynford High School Library.
