COLUMBUS — A Wynford senior was recognized Wednesday for his outstanding achievement in a ceremony in Columbus. Cole Heinlen is the Crawford County winner of the $500 Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award.
The program was established by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association to promote and recognize outstanding academic achievement. It is named in honor of Franklin B. Walter who served as State Superintendent of Education for Ohio from March 1977 until August 1991.
Only one senior from each county in Ohio receives this annual honor, and it’s the fourth time in 6 years that a Wynford senior has won.
Wynford High School Principal Jeff Holbrook attended with Heinlen and said getting to this level is rigorous process.
“You have to be a top tier student academically. You need to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement through high school grades, test scores, and school activities and awards,” Holbrook said.
Holbrook said what’s really impressive is that Heinlen is also active in sports as well, serving as captain of the football and basketball teams this past season.
Holbook said, at this time, Heinlen is the valedictorian of his class and he believes that will stand true when graduation arrives. Heinlen plans to attend Walsh University on both academic and athletic scholarships.
