Wynford Treasurer Leesa Smith’s five-year forecast indicates that district is expected to be in good financial condition – especially if tax renewals are passed in that time span.
During her report to the school board on Monday, Smith noted the difference between the forecast five months ago and the current one due to changes in the state funding. As a result of the new biennium budget funding for the school district the school will have over $1,000,000 over the next three years. Smith noted that 2019 and 2020 were calculated with and without assuming revenue from the levy renewals which indicates the importance of the renewal levies.
“It shows how very important it is that the community continues to support our levies that come up and have continued to do so for many years we greatly appreciate that,” Smith said.
Without the renewal of the levies in 2019 the school’s carryover at the end of the fiscal year would be $703,416. By 2020 the school’s carryover at the end of the fiscal year would be -$359,497. If the levies are renewed the carryover total would be over $1,000,000 that would go towards bettering the education experience for students within the Wynford School District.
The Wynford BOE approved all personnel items on the agenda including hiring Erin Duffy as the Head Swim Coach, Jeanne Thompson as District Test Coordinator, and establishing the pay rate for Wynford substitutes as established by the same position by the North Central Ohio Education Service Center.
All operational items of the agenda were unanimously approved by the Wynford BOE Monday night which included a three-year agreement with School Datebooks, rewording for student leave time for students with parents in active duty, and the first reading of the Wynford Preschool Policy.
Wynford Elementary Principal Nelle Nutter reported to the Board that attendance for parent/teacher conferences had an 87-percent attendance rate. Nutter also reported that students began placing the 7 Habits That Make An Effective Leader into their own words and then read about the habit during announcements at the school on Monday.
Nutter reported that the student growth data for elementary students weren’t quite up to the expectations in some areas in the actual growth of the students. Nutter noted that the closest to meeting all of the expectations was the second grade. Nutter said that the elementary staff needs to attack the areas in which deficiencies occur within each class.
Nutter explained to the board that the elementary will revisit the student growth expectations vs. the actual student growth in the winter.
In his report to the Wynford BOE Junior High Principal Chris Solis reported that for parent teacher conferences 36 letters were sent out to parents with 30 parents responding back. Solis explained that he is continuing to look at ways to bring more parents to the conferences including serving refreshments for the parents that attend.
In High School Principal Jeff Holbrook’s report to the BOE Holbrook noted that Jostens Cap and Gown order forms for graduating seniors have arrived to the school. Holbrook also reported to the Board that the fall homecoming was heavily attended and that Crystal Jennings did a phenomenal job with planning the event.
In Superintendent Steve Mohr’s report to the board he explained that the AIR and PARCC standardized tests results are in. Mohr said he will reserve his judgment on the new tests until other school districts speak on the subject. During his report Mohr commended Smith’s work on the five-year forecast as well as the 21st Century Before and After School Program.
