A position was split in two Monday night at the Wynford Board of Education meeting while the district’s Spanish teacher’s resignation was approved.

The school board approved Jeanne Thompson and Beth Heinlen as co-district test coordinators. Thompson had requested the board make the move out of a concern for fairness. She previously had been appointed to the position by herself.

Board members also approved the resignation of Spanish teacher Carla Colon.

“This comes with grateful regret, Carla Colon has been a wonderful find for the school district,” Wynford Superintendent Steve Mohr said.

The Board of Education unanimously approved all operational items on the agenda Monday night including a purchase order to Buckeye IT Services for a server. Mohr had noted that the server had broken on Friday when the controller that operates the hard drive had malfunctioned. Mohr explained that they had tried to have the part delivered by Fed Ex overnight however the part had not arrived. Mohr noted that everything was up and running with the exception of the H drive.

During Treasurer Leesa Smith’s report to the Board she reported that the actual versus estimate is in line for the fiscal year. Smith explained that the state auditors had returned to the school for a few days and that the school had no issues, and that they were finishing a few more items.

Smith noted that initial health insurance rates had an increase of 17 percent, but now estimates are coming in at a six percent to 10 percent higher, but the finalized agreement hasn’t come through for the board’s approval just yet.

In Food Service Director Caleb Duty’s report, he said that the current National School Lunch Program had expired and that the current one is in limbo in Congress. Duty reported that there could potentially be a lot of changes coming with more strict guidelines.

Elementary Principal Nelle Nutter reported that 69 total students are currently enrolled in the initial before- and after-school programs. Nutter also presented an online program that gives an assessment on where the student is performing and then provides a lesson plan for the students. Nutter noted that the program could become multiple programs wrapped into one.

Junior High Principal Chris Solis gave a presentation on OTES and what is involved when evaluating the teachers. Solaris explained that there are three major platforms in the evaluation instructional planning, instruction assessment, and professionalism. Solaris displayed the evaluation rubric that is emailed to the teachers in order for the teachers to be prepared for their evaluations.

In High School Principal Jeff Holbrook’s report he noted that the high school has begun preparing the 2016/2017 master schedule.

In Mohr’s report to the Board, he noted that the Leader in Me Program thus far had been for the most part covered by the Community Connectors Grant. Mohr also reported that there will be a change at school nurse, but currently the school is going through the finalization part of the hiring process.
