Press release and staff report

Twenty teams of students from across Ohio competed on June 12-13, 2017 at the State Envirothon. The State Envirothon was held in Pickaway County at Ohio Christian University. The top four teams from each of the five Area Envirothons across the state continue to the state competition.

The competition ended with Wynford students winning 1st place in the wildlife testing station and 2nd overall! The team consisted of Annika Gerlach, Aaron Hand, Kymber Sand, Luke Scott, and Ethan Stuckey.

The Envirothon is a multi-disciplinary, environmental problem solving competition hosted by Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Teams of four to five high school students train and compete in soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife, and current environmental issues.

This team has perpetuated the successes of Wynford teams at the state level. Since 2007 the Envirothon Royals have earned numerous awards. This year, the team just missed the top place honors by a margin of four points.

A five-member team from Chardon High School outscored 19 other teams, including narrowly passing Wynford, to win the 2017 State Envirothon competition. Wynford took second while Centerville High School from Montgomery County placed third. Upper Sandusky also represented northwest Ohio at the state competition.

The Wynford team qualified for the State Environthon at the Ohio Area 1 Envirothon on April 26 with a first place finish.
