BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Crews are on-site at Wynford Local Schools today to remove two wind turbines that have been a fixture of the campus for over a decade.
The owner of the turbines, Power Grid Partners, notified the district in December of its intent to dismantle the structures. According to company officials, a recent evaluation determined that the cost to repair the aging windmills exceeded the cost of their removal.
Wynford officials emphasized that the change will have zero fiscal impact on the school district. No district funds were used for the original construction of the windmills, and Power Grid Partners is assuming all costs associated with the removal process.
“Wynford Local Schools does not make any money on the windmills and will not lose any money as a result of their removal,” the district said in a statement.
While the turbines provided the district the option to purchase locally generated power, the cost per kilowatt-hour was identical to rates offered by AEP.
