BUCYRUS—On Monday evening, the Wynford Local Schools held their monthly Board of Education meeting.

At the meeting, the discussion was had as to the need and job description of both a Seasonal Weightlifting Coordinator and a Head Weightlifting Coordinator.

Typically, the seasonal weightlifting coordinator is a head coach who isn’t in their sports season and is more of a supervisor, whereas the head weightlifting coordinator is a year-round position. They are the ones who put together different workouts that will benefit all the students, not just the athletes, who come in to use the school’s weightlifting facility.

The discussion was had into having someone who is not a head coach within the district serve as the head weightlifting coordinator to avoid any potential conflict or favoritism that could happen.

Also, on the matter, the discussion was had on potentially having one coordinator for the female students and one for the males, and maybe having more than one weightlifting session a day to accommodate for the mass number of students who use the facility.

Cyle Skidmore, the current Junior High, and High School Physical Education Teacher, was approved as the spring weightlifting coordinator and the head weightlifting coordinator, with the latter being a term from February 1 through March 15, where at the next board meeting, board members will have an idea as to what they want out of the head weightlifting coordinator and will further discuss the matter then.

Skidmore has served in the role since Gabe Helbert, former head football coach and head weightlifting coordinator, resigned from both positions.

The resignations of Head Football Coach and Head Weightlifting Coordinator Gabe Helbert, who spent over ten years with the district, secretary Jana Taylor, who spent over twenty years with the district, and preschool teacher Claire Harris, who spent ten years with the district, were approved.

Levi Hartschuh, one of the new board members, attended the OSBA New Member Conference, where he brought back the ideas of a survey that can be sent out to staff members where they can anonymously give their feedback on the district. Another idea he presented was to record the board meetings and post them online for full transparency with the Wynford community. Superintendent Fred Fox will check with the district’s lawyers to see how to proceed with the matter.

During the superintendent’s comments section of the meeting, Mr. Fox updated the board on the status of materials needed to finish the renovations to the old section of the high school that is still in use.

The exterior doors are now pushed back to the beginning of May because the security portion of the hardware has a chip in it, and those are not expected until April.

The school does have temporary occupancy of the old building, with the ag and choir classes being held in their original classrooms again.

The next board meeting is March 15 at 5:30 p.m.
