News Release:
Holmes Township – Some 65 residents of the Wynford school district gathered Monday night to kick off a bond issue campaign to renovate and build an addition to Wynford High School.
Jeffrey Schiefer, a former Wynford Board of Education member, is serving as the campaign chairman.
“We had a great turnout for our first campaign meeting,” Schiefer said. “We’ve assembled a steering committee, and we’re working on a game plan for making our case.”
Wynford Local Schools has placed before the voters a 5.9 mill bond issue for a $27 million construction project to build new classrooms for grades six through 12, renovate a large portion of the existing high school building, and make some updates to its elementary building. The school district’s share of the project would be just over $17 million, with the remaining $10.6 million being supplied by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.
“There are a lot of compelling reasons for the timing of this project,” Schiefer said. “Our modular buildings, which were supposed to be temporary, are rapidly deteriorating and that is probably the biggest reason. Factor in the timing of the state’s contribution coupled with low interest rates, and we think the voters will agree the time is now.”
