As part of the golden anniversary celebration of Wynford Schools, past valedictorians were honored for the school’s graduation ceremony Saturday night.

Organized by the Wynford Golden Anniversary Committee member Verna Schifer, 16 of Wynford’s past valedictorians attended the event.

The earliest valedictorian to attend the event was Marylyn Strang who was valedictorian of the class of 1965.

“It was neat to be the valedictorian of such a wonderful new school at that time, and it is wonderful to see it look so great when we come back.” Strang said.

Strang began working at Ohio Mutual Insurance while still in high school. After graduating she stayed with the company retiring three years ago.

Zoe Kent, the most recent valedictorian, attended the event as well. Since graduating in 2013 Kent is attending college at the Ohio State University pursuing a Bachelor’s in Agriculture Business.

Kent explained of the honor, “It was really fun it is a great honor to be with all of these people.”

Randy Buck who was valedictorian of 1983 explained of the honor, “There were a couple of us and we weren’t actually told until the practice, or right before the actual graduation so I was kind of surprised when I found out.

Prior to taking their places for the ceremony Schifer thanked the past valedictorians for attending.

“I want to thank all of you for showing up,” Shifer said to the attendees. “We have been celebrating the fiftieth anniversary all year, and this is the culmination.”
