NEWARK — Wynford High School FFA is moving on to nationals for the first time in school history.
With a first-place finish at the state competition, the Wynford FFA rural soils team is the first for the district to travel to Oklahoma to compete in the National Soil Judging Competition.
On Sept. 20, the Wynford FFA competed at the county soils CDE. All members from the chapter participated in urban and/or rural soil judge.
The rural team placed second in the county with Lexie Wood placing second, Thomas Weithman placing fourth and Jodie Jennings placing fifth as individuals.
The Urban team placed first in the county. Ashlee Zender tied for first, Thomas Weithman was third, Allison Scott was fourth and Ethan Hall was fifth.

The urban and rural teams then competed at districts at Malabar Farms. The rural team won the division with Connor Miller leading the team as the first-place individual and Jodie Jennings followed as the third-place individual. The urban team placed third in the district with Emily Rudd leading the team with a fifth-place individual score.
The rural and urban teams then moved onto the state soils contest held at Dawes Arboretum on Oct. 13.
The urban team placed 12th out of 47 teams at the state contest with Zoltan Feldman leading the team with a fifth-place individual score, and Allison Scott, Emily Rudd, and Ashlee Zender followed.
The rural team is the first ever team to represent Wynford FFA at the national soils contest in the spring in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The rural team won first place with Connor Miller leading the team as the third-place individual, with Jodie Jennings following in sixth place, Thomas Weithman was 31st and Lexi Wood was 35th.
These four will be representing our chapter at the national contest in May.
