When students return to Wynford for the 2017-18 school year, a new sight will welcome them.

A new electronic sign now sits in front of the junior high and high school building after being installed Wednesday morning, July 26, as a result of 2017 Wynford graduate Jack Reed’s work.

Reed chose to make giving a sign to Wynford the focus of his senior project. Wynford seniors must complete a project for graduation.

“You look at every other school in the county and every other school has (a sign) except for Wynford,” Reed said. “Mr. Fox, when he was new here, I heard he wanted one, so I introduced my self and we started talking “

Reed wanted to have a sign installed by the end of the school year, but after realizing the size of the task, decided to make his goal to raise the funds for the sign.

Reed met with Superintendent Fred Fox to discuss what type of sign was wanted and both made contact with a company in Florida for pricing.

The electric sign was going to cost $22,000.

Reed then created a brochure and approached two organizations that he felt had always looked out for the betterment of the school. First Federal Bank and the Wynford PTO split the cost of the sign and help Reed finish his project.

The sign then was ordered and delivered in six weeks and installed within another six weeks.

Reed said while some of his classmates chose senior projects that simply filled requirements, he wanted to do something that would be remembered.

“I wanted to leave my mark on Wynford and kind of do it for the 2017 class,” Reed said. “I love this school and every time I drive by I’ll be able to say I helped put that up.”
