Wynford made plans to change up graduation for the class of 2014 during the district’s board of education meeting Monday night.
The Wynford Board approved a measure introduced by High School Principal Jeff Holbrook to hold the ceremony for the seniors outdoors at the school’s football field at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Holbrook explained the motivation to take the event outdoors.
“I went to Margaretta High School and we had an outdoor graduation, and obviously I think everybody remembers their high school graduation,” Holbrook said. “Actually I can’t take all of the credit because the kids approached me, with the fiftieth celebration year they wanted to do things differently.”
It was agreed by the board that if there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the same date and time in the school’s gymnasium.
After serving eight years on the board, Wynford Board of Education President Brian Glowaski presided over his final meeting Monday night.
Glowaski recounted his time serving with the school board.
“Interacting with the other board members they are a special group of people and the dedication they have at the school, also the interaction with Mr. Mohr and Mrs. Smith,” Glowaski said. “It’s a great group of people to work with, and the memories of working with them, is really what made it worthwhile.”
Glowaski explained that he still may be a familiar face around Wynford in the future. “I may come to the board meetings and watch a while because I enjoyed being around these people.”
Fred Hendricks was elected the seat vacated by Glowaski in November’s General Election.
Superintendent Steve Mohr thanked Glowaski for the time on the board.
“It is hard to believe that it was eight years ago that I met Brian at the courthouse during the election. It seemed as if we were on the same wavelength,” Mohr said. “When ideas were different he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, and because of that it made a stronger board.
The Wynford school board approved all operational items during the meeting including the retirement of David Dotson, as well as the resignations of bus driver Serena Locke, and golf coach Jason Chandler.
