Wynford employees will soon have a guideline to follow when it comes to a code of conduct and discipline.
Superintendent Fred Fox discussed the upcoming Wynford School District Employee Code of Conduct at the school board meeting Monday evening. Though it has not yet been implemented, Fox said it will set a precedent for all employees in the district, whether it be teachers, administrators, or board members.
“My intentions were that we become consistent,” Fox explained.
The code of conduct, which will be presented to teachers at the Feb. 17 staff in-service, will set a system of fair and equal discipline and serve as a guide for the Board of Education’s expectations. It is also a reflection of conduct set by the Ohio Revised Code. Employees will read and sign the code of conduct, which then will be put in their personnel file.
“It’s pretty common sense: expectations of any employer with any employee,” Fox said.
“We went through these documents very, very thoroughly. It’s not only for the teachers, but it gives them a sense of fairness,” added Fred Hendricks, who helped build the code of conduct. “It’s a two-way road that benefits both.”
Board member Rhonda Rowland asked that a disclosure of relationships to school officials and board members be added for transparency. Debbi Gifford added that a similar section should be added for business affiliations.
The board expressed its confidence in its leaders and re-elected Gifford and Steve Crall as the president and vice president, respectively. Crall and Tom Kalb were appointed to the Finance Committee while Gifford and Crall will serve on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Fred Hendricks was selected as the district’s legislative liaison and Rowland as the student achievement liaison.
