If the 2015 Crawford County Spelling Bee had been a prize fight they may have called it a draw on Jan. 14.
Wynford fifth graders Neil Groth and Daniel Kurek battled each other and competitors from Crawford County school districts through 38 rounds before Groth finally pulled the trigger on the winning word – bilateral.
The top 12 from the spelling bee held at Crestline advance to the Tri-County Spelling Bee on Feb. 5 which will be held at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center. Joining Groth and Kurek will be, with grade in school in parentheses, Ashley Davis (5) and Alex Wion (6) of Bucyrus; Elizabeth Adams (8), Macie Davis (7), and Trinity Gatten (7) of Colonel Crawford; Regin Kuehlman (5) and Caleb Strack (7) of Galion; Jodie Jennings (7) and Owen Fruth (5) of Wynford; and Chloe Sargent (6) of St. Bernard.
The County Spelling Bee is the first step in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
