BUCYRUS—When Bucyrus City Councilman At-Large, Dan Wirebaugh, walked out of a city council committee meeting on Thursday, he may have walked into litigation aimed at removing him from office on allegations of malfeasance.
When Bucyrus resident Vicki Dishon pointed out to council that they violated their own written rules by wrongfully removing resident Carolyn Shireman from their meeting held on the Tuesday before, Wirebaugh abruptly left the meeting.
Crawford County Now reached out to Mayor Reser for comment. Reser told Crawford County Now that he was not in charge of city council meetings. CCN reached out to President Jenny Vermillion, who responded:
“Unfortunately, I was not at that meeting due to illness. I will review the ordinance along with council and the law director.”
Crawford County Now has not heard further from Vermillion. Bucyrus City Law Director Brian Gernert, who represents the city, had no comment at this time.
Councilman-At-Large Dan Wirebaugh had plenty to say:
“Will the current toxic behavior of the public that becomes more and more acceptable in our society be tolerated in our community? From laughing and pointing and disrupting a Presidential Address to storming the hallowed halls of Democracy, kidnapping Governors, to supporting a murderous dictator that might very well propel us into WW3. We see obscenity-laden flags in our neighborhoods, the anti-government and hate groups on the rise. Whatever happened to “Love thy neighbor”? This is today’s reality. We are living in a disintegrating, degenerative society. It’s not going to happen in my community and certainly not while I’m on City Council. The safety and security of the members I serve with and the spectators in the audience deserved quick measures to avoid any misconduct. I believe the reasonable citizens far outnumber the unreasonable ones, and currently, the unreasonable ones are much louder than the reasonable ones. I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. I’m not always reasonable. I won’t apologize for what happened Tuesday night or on Thursday, although I did indicate to Mr. Myers that I was leaving, and it will be up to him to excuse me or not. My reasoning was personal, and that should be enough. Time will tell where we go from here. As always, my intentions are to always serve the people I represent, whether they agree with me or not.”
Crawford County Now did not seek further statements from other council members.
According to anonymous sources, paperwork was filed Monday Morning in Crawford County Probate Court to charge Wirebaugh with malfeasance seeking to remove him from office.
Malfeasance is defined by the wrongdoing or misconduct by someone, especially an elected official.
Crawford County Now reached out to the resident evicted from the meeting, Carolyn Shireman, but she declined to comment at this time.
Crawford County Now will continue to follow this developing story.
