UPDATE: The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has canceled all Snow Level Alerts for Crawford County as of 9:30 a.m.

Winter Storm Vulcan packed some punch for North Central Ohio Wednesday but saved its worst for northern Ohio as it heads to the Northeast where it could drop as much as 18 inches of snow.

This area received more than one-half inch of rain Wednesday and 2.3 inches of new snowfall. Crawford County was placed under a Level 1 Snow Alert late Wednesday morning and that warning was upgraded to a Level 2 in the afternoon. That was still in place as of early Thursday morning.

While Crawford County schools opened on time Wednesday, several released students early in the afternoon and all canceled classes on Thursday.

The storm did wreak some havoc here when U.S. Rt. 30 was closed late Wednesday afternoon between St. Rt. 602 and Co. Rd. 330 east of Bucyrus due to a jackknifed semi-truck. The westbound lanes were closed between 2:45 p.m. until 5.

An accident at the intersection of state routes 96 and 98 involved an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper from the Bucyrus Post. That trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

North of here on the Ohio Turnpike near Fremont a 50-vehicle pileup killed three people and seriously injured several others including a State Highway Patrol trooper.
