The Bucyrus City Council’s Finance Committee met Monday and put its backing behind State Issue 1 in the May Primary Election.
The issue is a proposed constitutional amendment to fund public infrastructure capital improvements by permitting the issuance of general obligation bonds.
The Finance Committee approved an extra $500,000 for mill and pave projects for a total of $1,000,000. The extra monies were requested by City Service/Safety Director Jeff Wagner due to the extra harsh winter that took its toll on local roads.
The Finance Committee approved a $483,000 appropriation for Waterworks Replacement. City Auditor Joyce Schifer explained that approval is to be held until a loan for the project goes through.
The Finance Committee also approved to allow for the purchase of a new street sweeper for the cost of $186,238.24 through Freight Liner.
A new garbage truck will have to wait for approval as Bucyrus City Attorney Rob Ratliff will look into whether the city has to go through a state purchase or not.
The Bucyrus City Council’s Health and Safety Committee met prior to the Finance Committee and approved the 4 C’s Car Club plans for its annual car show for legislation; however this year the club has made a few changes.
In a letter to be reviewed before legislation the 4 C’s announced that the event will be held on from noon until midnight on June 14 and requested that Sandusky Avenue from Mary Street to Oakwood Street be closed as well as the 100 blocks of East and West Rensselaer, East and West Charles, and West Warren streets.
The letter also asked that the West Warren Street and the East Rensselaer Street sections be closed from 9 a.m. until midnight due to moving the food court to East Rensselaer and the condition of the old movie theater on Warren Street in response to safety concerns.
