NEW WASHINGTON—On Thursday evening, the Buckeye Central board of education held their monthly meeting.
Like last month, Nick Faeth and Roger Weisenauer spoke to the board regarding the fight against wind turbines in Crawford County.
Weisenauer stated that commissioners have the resolution paperwork from Seneca County and have been in talks with Hancock County on the matter.
He reiterated that the commissioners have two choices – either make the county a restricted area or do nothing, which would be taken as approval.
Should the commissioners declare it restricted, there will not be an automatic vote on the matter. Then the opposing side has to get eight percent (approx. one thousand, two hundred) of the signatures of the people who voted in the last general election to be able to get the matter onto the ballot in the next general election.
At this time, the Buckeye Central board of education stated that out of respect for people on both sides of the issue in the district, they will remain neutral on the matter.
The Buckeye Central Buckettes will play in the Final Four in the state basketball tournament today at 2 p.m. The Buckettes will play Waterford.
To listen to the game, tune in to Q92.7 WQEL. To watch the game, go to either The OH Report’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.
Should they win, they would go on to play Saturday evening at 5:15 p.m. for a chance at the state title.
Due to the game, the professional development day that was supposed to be held on Friday was moved to Monday, technically making Friday a calamity day.
At last month’s meeting, the board approved a trip to a conference in Atlanta, Georgia, for several members to attend the Ron Clark Academy. At Thursday’s meeting, the board approved an in-service day on Friday, September 16, for the Ron Clark Academy to be at Buckeye Central. The day will begin with a two-hour session where he will speak. Then there will be breakout groups for the rest of the day.
Bids for the district’s media center project will open soon, with them being due by April 4 at 2 p.m. The winning bid will be approved at a special board meeting on April 7 at 7 p.m.
The project includes the media center, athletic director’s office, guidance office, middle school principal’s and secretary’s offices, middle school workroom and teachers’ area, middle school classroom, elementary classrooms, and outdoor signage.
The board approved a contract with S&K Outdoor Development, LLC. for lawn mowing services in 2022 and 2023.
The next board meeting is on April 14 at 7 p.m.
