Who’s next – local Republicans to select interim Bucyrus mayor

The next mayor of Bucyrus will be selected late Thursday afternoon when Republican Central Committee members from Bucyrus meet.

Only five of nine Bucyrus precinct posts on the committee are currently filled. Voting will be Jenny Vermillion, Paul Vermillion, Carol Miller, Sis Love and Eric Griebling. They were responsible for interviewing the three applicants and will determine by vote who will become the interim mayor following the death of Roger Moore.

Love, as City Council president, has been acting mayor since Moore died unexpectedly May 20.

The vote will come during a 4:30 meeting Thursday afternoon in the Lower Level Conference Room of the county courthouse. Tentative plans are for the new mayor to be sworn in on July 1.
