A roundtable discussion was held at the Galion Train Depot Wednesday night about what to do with the building.
Ideas ranging from a rail road museum to a family restaurant were discussed during the discussion Wednesday. However it may all come down to the Ohio Arts and Sports Commission to decide what is done with the historical building.
Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary explained the next step being taken to figure out what can be done with the building.
“Between now and mid-January Linda Chambers and myself will contact the Ohio Arts and Sports Commission with the purpose of having them to come up to this interested volunteer group what restrictions are placed on the use of this facility to access their funds,” O’Leary said.
“I am interested in projects that bring people together, and I would love to see this be a multipurpose place that follows all the guidelines that were drawn out tonight.” Carolyn Kaple said.
Linda Chambers, who purchased the Train Depot in 2000 for the city while managing money for the downtown grants spoke during the meeting.
“I really love this building. I am sorry we couldn’t get this done when doing the hotel, and the Penny Building,” Chambers said.
Galion currently has $60,000 in funds to go towards the train depot project with another possible $200,000 in state funds once the city is out of fiscal emergency.
The next meeting on the Train Depot will take place at Galion Miniciapl Building mid-January where the group will have a better idea of what can and can’t be done with the premises.
